Triumph Inspiration Award 2012
I was chosen to represent LSAD in the Irish National Finals of the Triumph Inspiration Awards 2012, with the piece Butterfly Effect. The theme of the 2012 TIA was “Dragons and Butterflys”.
Butterfly Effect
“It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly’swing
can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world.”
Chaos Theory
The source of inspiration for my design is the concept called the “Butterfly effect “.
”A small change at one place can result in large differences to later state”.
I became fascinated by the fractal images, which illustrated the Butterfly effect.
Keeping in mind such ideas as the Chain of Events, Interconnectedness, Ripple Effects, the Hurricane,
Self-Similarity, I explored unusual behaviour of light transparent fabrics such
as organza, organdie, chiffon, trying to create movement around the body. The ideas of
transparency and free movement are disclosed in the embroidery on the water soluble fabric.
Garment consists of a bra and briefs. The flat pattern on the bra cups and briefs gradually turns into 3D
shapes, which twist around shoulder and hips. The loose embroidery creates a
chaotic chain of flat twists.
